Let's start with what I liked. Overall, the writing was good. The scenes flowed smoothly and had the appropriate level of description.

I struggled a lot with the plotline and the lack of character development. The plotline was the typical savior story. What made it weak was the complete lack of agency in the main character. The first 250 pages of this book we listen to her whine and cry and throw fits and wait around to be rescued. I started skimming because it was just one scene of her being completely useless after another. The girl had no common sense. I am more of a fix your problems and save yourself sort of person so imagine my frustration as she plays dress up in a palace and whines about getting home to her mom while wandering gardens and eating breakfast. Seriously chica...your mom is dying and your focused on the details of your wardrobe in fairyland? And then she switches to wanting to be the savior in about two seconds flat? When she has no survival skills or even life skills? It was...more than disappointing watching her flail around without a clue. I wasn't even rooting for her anymore.

I also found the love story to be unimaginative and rather emotionless. One minute she was making goo goo eyes at him and the next she loves him? Why, exactly? It wasn't like she'd spent any significant time with him or as if they'd gone through something life changing together. Don't get me wrong, I liked Adrius. He at least had the complexity she was lacking. I felt his emotions more than hers.

My final pet peeve is that Lorelei spent the entire bookbinding, mumbling, whispering, looking down, and generally being as weak as possible. I don't need her to be an Amazon warrior, but I do need her to be more colorful than a white wall.

Sadly, despite my hopes for this novel, I am definitely not wowed. I will probably read book 2 just to see if it gets better. Still, I would not recommend this book and think the message it sends to young women (wait around to be rescued, it's ok to throw your common sense out the window when you see a pretty face, feel free to play the victim because it will get you guys, don't bother to save yourself, etc.) are not ones we should be giving them.

The first 100 to 150 pages is some of the worst writing I've ever seen. The main character is a blatant and whiny Mary Sue, the author abuses the word "sexy", and at least half the book is written like a poor self-insert fanfic. Still, the princes are fun and it's cheap, but if you're looking for quality, look elsewhere.
Such an enchanting read. Michele's writing took me to a whole new world filled with beautiful descriptions, court intrigue, and mystique surrounding her world,Mythlandria. An enjoyable read for all ages, you won't want to pass this one up. Although reminiscent of Twilight in a few ways, I loved this take with elves, fae, and witches far better than territorial werewolves and sparkling vampires. And Lorelei was an interesting character, but she definitely had her flaws that sometimes aggravated me. However, she's a teenager and that's what teenagers do--they rebel. I can't wait to read the next book in the series, and here's hoping a movie is well on the way.
This is a great story. There is a nice romance, and the writer builds a beautiful picture of a mythical land. I wish that there had been more description in the scenes, and more details. It felt like each scene was really short and there could have been a lot more. Also, I have to say though I don't hate the main character the author makes her out to be a complete IDIOT. There was one point in the book that I had to stop reading for a bit because I was so mad about how stupid she was being. Though this could very well be the purpose. Overall, it is a good story and I truly did enjoy reading it. I plan on reading the next book as well, though I hope the main character finds some smarts in that one.
Fire & Ice merges the dramatic & magical world of fantasy with the real-life situations young adults of today's generation face in peer & family relations. This book draws the reader in from the start with the story line of a young high school girl who thinks differently than the crowd & has an unusual family secret! The reader will soon find out WHY she thinks differently and how her world expands into one that takes you on a journey of love, redemption and twisting adventures. It reminded me a bit of the Twilight Series as well as parts of the Books of Narnia.
Magical, Wildly Creative, Youthful and Fun!
I was captivated from the very beginning. Starting out as a average book and transforming into a creative, unimaginable world, where creatures beyond your vastest imagination exist.
The heroin of the book Lorelei developes as a person throughout this book. A teenager, naive, weak and gullible transforms into a strong, mature and with a will to conquer life that doesn't cease.
I loved and was in awe of all of the characters. Each one completely unique and with their own background to unravel. Secrets and lies start to come out. I start to learn about the past, as I'm engulfed In the present and fear for their future.
I'm a new fan of Michele's and am eagerly anticipating the release of bittersweet. I will try to patiently wait as my thoughts will continually drift to this creative storyline and all the what if's and what will come that will be berating my mind.
This could have been a much better book, as the author has a real talent for world building. Unfortunately, the absolute stupidity of the female lead jars you out of world the author has woven rather abruptly. Why are female authors unable to write a heroine who doesn't act like a stupid, willful child? It was disappointing, and predictable. Characters behaving in ways no sane person would act in a survival situation doesn't indicate independence or strength - it indicates weakness, petulance and stupidity. Something that makes it very difficult to connect with the character and impossible to believe in any hero having a sincere attraction to her. Which is a shame, because this author created a vivid world filled with amazing characters.
